Assessment of Erie City Council unanimous in first vote for cell-phone driving ban 

After talking in class last Thursday I wanted to look at this article and see what City Council does.  I think that the topic is kind of hard to write about because people have so many differing opinions.  The way that the writer describes the ban is well-written.  The quotes from people who had to vote last thursday make me wonder that if they have questions about how the ban will be enforced makes me wonder how it will be enforced.  The quotes used as support are good because they say people’s opinions and cover all sides of the ban.

Assessment on College’s too-fat-to-graduate rule under fire

I read the title of this article and did not believe that this would be happening anywhere!  We are raised to not discriminate and here we see that colleges are not letting students graduate becaus eof their weight.  It is interesting to see that the way the author backs up what he learned by using quotes from the college students editorial in her college newspaper instead of an interview with her.

This article is well written by using a chairman of the college’s Department of Health by him saying that this requirement (that is only for students with 30 BMI or over) is just like courses that help students’ communication and math proficiency.  This is bizarre to me.  I wonder if this article being published will increase students from other colleges to speak out.

Assessment of Erie County’s uninsured list keeps growing

This article really struck me because yes we know that people live without health care but seeing how the list keeps growing it is scary.  The article uses real people who are stuck in a situation without health care but are getting older and something could happen that they would need to be hospitalized and may not be able to.

The article is well written in the fact that it tells both sides of the story and uses real-life people struggling.  By telling both sides of the story everyone can relate to the story and  probably going through the same problems.

Assessment of Learning Math From the Rubik’s Cube

This article interested me from the title and I am wondering how the Rubik’s Cube that we were allowed to use for fun would help with learning math.  The company who owns the Rubik’s cube who came up with a program 2 years ago.  Problem-solving guides were made to help make the Rubik’s cube student friendly.  The lesson is based on problem solving, this helps the students learn to deal with stress and problem-solving in life.

The article is well written but to me it does not have enough physical support to make me believe that teaching children how to solve the Rubik’s cube will help them in life.  It says that school in New York are the ones using ths program and ends the article by stating these schools.  Not a good ending if you ask me! I want something powerful and to make me believe this topic.

That made me very angry becuase the artists don’t vote for the artists the fan do!  Most Country artists write their own music which makes it more special because as the listener you get to understand the artist.  The music is very relatable and has everyone singing along.

I have wanted to learn how to Snowboard since high school but have not had the money to learn.  As my final year in college I am taking a class for the Spring semester to learn how to Snowboard.  I am super excited!  I know that it will cost a bit of money that I don’t really have right now but I am fulfilling one of my dreams. 

A couple of my friends taught themselves how to snowboard during one of our high school dances and they came back to school very sore and with bruises.  I am a little nervous that I am going to be sore and have bruises but I think it will be worth it!

I can’t wait for January and who knows maybe I’ll update you on how things are going!

My friend was telling me the other day that her and her mother look at message boards about their favorite television shows to see what other people think.  The example she gave me was The Bachelor/Bachelorette, they check to see who likes which candidate and who should not receive a rose.

Message boards remind me of self help books and how people are looking for advice.

I chose this article because I wanted to see how the media captures a horrible event such as a shooting.  CNN reporters happened to be at Fort Hood getting a tour to see hoe Fort Hood was helping soldier cope with stress and mental health problems.  The writer did a great job describing the center, he talked about how big the room was, who was standing in lines, and how soldiers did not sit in one chair for over 30 seconds but they still sat down again once the line moved.  He described the nurse who would direct traffic at the front door of the center.  This woman was not overly friendly but she did her job and made sure once inside everything would run smoothly.  The writer ends by talking about whether this woman worked the day of the shooting and if she was working if there would be a different rurnout.

Some of the blogs that I have looked at that are about sports I don’t conside blogs because the only people who can actually blog on those sites are people who work for lets say ESPN.  Comments can be left by fans of that sport but the fans can’t leave a long in-depth explaination of why they feel how they feel but they can only comment on what the “blogger” posted.  This makes people no able to express their opinion and be told by “officials” what they should be talking about and how they should feel.

So I don’t necessarily consider all blogs actual blogs.

Facebook has added soo many applications that can keep a person busy for hours even days.  The newest addition that makes people check their Facebook daily, even hourly.  This application is called Farmville.  People can live next to friends and make a farm by putting in a house, getting animals, and planting seeds.  In order for these seeds to grow and animals to stay healthy people have to water them and feed them daily.  From what I understand the cows can get sick and that makes people get on their Facebook multiple times a day to make the cow better!

I think this application is ridiculous!  I do not have enough time in a day to get my homework done let alone waste more time on Facebook building my farm.  People are obsessed and talk about how their farms are doing in class and walking around campus.  Whenever I hear people talking about Farmville I think it is ridiculous and laugh at how this is taking over people. 

I have said this from the beginning “I will never make a farm on Farmville” and now with this being online I will definately stick to it!
